Treating Fertility with Acupuncture: Richmond, Virginia

The experience of coming face to face with your fertility can be a stressful and overwhelming one. And it can be taboo even to discuss it, making the experience just that much more intense. If you're undergoing treatment, there are the lab tests and the hormones and drugs and all the strong emotions that come with having your body poked and prodded and your hormones altered. It's a modern miracle, but it can be [...]

Our licensed acupuncturist, Greg Dow, recently was interviewed by the new Well and Good podcast hosted by Jay Smack. Jay grills Greg on things like the efficacy of acupuncture, how acupuncture works, and how acupuncture works for conditions like anxiety and stress management issues. One of our patients recently called us, "The most conventional of the alternative medicine options," and this podcast really speaks to that. We are really proud of that designation, by [...]

Maegan N. Hodge Speaks On Lyme Disease

Last summer, our Principal Acupuncturist, Maegan N. Hodge, took some time to sit down with her colleague Andrew Miles, DOM of the Botanical Biohacking podcast to discuss the modern treatment of Lyme disease, and how traditional practices of "witchcraft" in ancient southern China unwittingly contributed to advances in the field. Sounds strange right? We promise we do not advocate the practice of witchcraft for medical purposes. We have, however, been told that it is a very interesting [...]

The Root Of It All

Circulation and the Gut: The two most important systems to get in order One of my teachers says something that is very obviously true, but also quite helpful to think about: “The basic requirement of health is to have highly oxygenated, highly nutritious blood flowing to all of the tissues in the body.” This means you need plenty of blood flowing to any given area of the body, and that the blood has to [...]

Acupuncture For Chronic Injuries

Many patients ask, “How does acupuncture work?” It’s a tricky question to answer because terms like “qi” and “yang” aren’t what most people are looking for right out of the gate. They want to hear the question answered in a way they can understand, which means explaining things from a Western perspective.  This can be done, but the reality is that the scientific community’s inquiry into the workings of acupuncture is really in its [...]

Acupuncture For Stress

If you've gone through a particularly stressful period in your life and feel drained, or feel chronically prone to "getting stressed out", you should consider Chinese medicine, or acupuncture, as one of the best ways to recuperate your energy. Stress is a part of life, but if the body isn't able to maintain a healthy balance between the sympathetic (fight-or-flight) and parasympathetic (rest-and-digest) branches of the nervous system, you're headed for trouble. This chronically [...]
