Why Richmond Patients Trust Centered for Chinese Medicine
- Thorough diagnostic process — I don’t treat every patient the same way. Your treatment plan is built around your specific pattern, not a generic protocol.
- Acupuncture + herbal medicine together — Most conditions respond best when both are working in concert. I’m trained in both and prescribe custom herbal formulas as part of your care.
- Over a decade of clinical experience — Licensed since 2011, Board of Medicine credentialed, with thousands of patients treated across a wide range of conditions.
- Highly rated — One of the top-reviewed acupuncture clinics in the Richmond area on Google and Facebook.
- No-pressure first step — Your initial consultation is complimentary. I’ll be straightforward about whether I think Chinese medicine can help your specific situation.
What Chinese Medicine Can Address
People come to my Richmond clinic with a wide range of health concerns. Some of the most common include:
- Chronic and stubborn pain — back pain, neck tension, headaches, migraines, neuropathy, TMJ
- Digestive dysfunction — bloating, IBS, constipation, acid reflux, food sensitivities
- Mental and emotional health — anxiety, depression, insomnia, chronic stress, overwhelm
- Hormonal and reproductive health — fertility support, IVF and IUI preparation, low AMH, PMS, perimenopause, hormonal imbalance
- Autoimmune and complex conditions — Lyme disease, Epstein-Barr, long COVID, MCAS
If you’re not sure whether your condition is something I work with, that’s exactly what the free consultation is designed to answer.
Getting Started Is Straightforward
Step 1: A Free Conversation About Your Health
Book a complimentary consultation online or by phone. This is a real conversation — I’ll ask about your health history, listen to what’s been going on, and give you an honest assessment of whether Chinese medicine is a good fit for your situation. No cost, no obligation, no sales pitch.
Step 2: A Clear Plan Before You Start
If we decide to work together, I’ll map out a treatment plan that includes what services I recommend, how many sessions to expect, and what the investment looks like. You’ll know exactly what you’re signing up for before your first treatment.
Step 3: Track Progress and Adjust
From your first treatment onward, I’m monitoring how your body responds. I use symptom tracking and regular check-ins to make sure we’re moving in the right direction — and I adjust the plan when the clinical picture shifts.s.
What Sets My Chinese Medicine Practice Apart
Here’s what I’ve noticed after over a decade of practice in Richmond: most patients who walk through my door have already tried other things. They’ve seen specialists, taken medications, done physical therapy, changed their diet. Some have improved partially. Many haven’t.
The reason Chinese medicine often succeeds where other approaches stall is that it’s built on a different diagnostic framework. Instead of matching a symptom to a drug, I’m looking for the pattern — the underlying imbalance that connects your symptoms into a coherent picture. Two patients with the same Western diagnosis can have completely different Chinese medicine patterns, and they need completely different treatments.
That pattern-based approach is the foundation of everything I do at Centered. Every treatment — whether it’s acupuncture, herbal medicine, or a combination — is designed around your specific pattern, not a one-size-fits-all protocol.
And when Chinese medicine isn’t the right fit for someone, I say so. I’d rather refer you to the right provider than waste your time.

About Your Practitioner: Maegan N. Hodge, L.Ac.
My path to Chinese medicine wasn’t a straight line. I started as a psychology major at the University of Virginia, grew up skeptical of anything that couldn’t show me hard evidence, and came from a small town in southwest Virginia where most people had never heard of acupuncture. A series of fortunate events — including my own health struggles — led me to the National College of Natural Medicine in Portland, Oregon, where I earned my Master of Science in Oriental Medicine and completed a year-long mentorship with Dr. Heiner Fruehauf, one of the foremost Chinese herbalists in the country.
I’ve been licensed and practicing in Virginia since 2011 and opened Centered in 2014. Over the past decade-plus, I’ve treated thousands of patients dealing with everything from chronic pain and neuropathy to hormonal imbalances, digestive disorders, anxiety, Lyme disease, and fertility challenges. The common thread in my practice is complex cases — patients whose conditions don’t fit neatly into one box, and who need a provider willing to dig into the full picture.
